Question
I have 4 new guinea pigs and one of them has a split ear right down the middle almost to the bottom i clear and cream it but will it be ok also a second one now has a small notch out of his ear i assume it is due to fighting although i can not see which ones are fighting. any advice ? many thanks

Answer
The ear(s) should heal fine.

You're probably right, they are fighting, or at least scuffling.  Are they all the same sex?  How old are they?  How big is the cage?  Boars (males) will often fight with each other although you can often house two boars together without problems, more than two almost always causes fighting.  Sows (females) will sometimes fight too.

If they are a combination of boars and sows you need to separate them by sex.

The cage needs to be large enough to allow each animal to feel like it can "escape" from a scuffle.  A larger cage is sometimes all that is needed to stop minor scuffles.

If they are actually fighting you need to find out which one is the one causing the trouble and remove that animal.  There is usually a bully in that case.  One option is to separate them all and introduce them one at a time.
