skittish, shy, bugs, not drinkin water pigs

Question
i bought 2 female guinea pigs from a local pet store. they are super skittish and are very quiet. i cup of pellets can last the two of them for about 3 days. I'm worried. I'm also worried that they are not drinking enough water. i add the vitamins to the water, like they did at the pet shop and the two of them will only drink about less that 1/4 cup a day. i feel them hay which they love but don't use the hay rack. they aren't really playful and don't know what to do. they also have these very tiny light brown things crawling on them. the bugs or lice look kinda like worms and have a long body; they are super tiny and are normally attached at the hair root. Please help me with my cuties, Tokyo and Paris.

Answer
Naomi,

It is to be expected that they are so shy and skittish. Give them lots of attention, love and handling. That'll get them to feel more comfortable with you and their new surroundings. They'll settle in soon, give them about a month to 2 months to fully settle in and relax.

It sounds like your girls have fur mites. Which isn't uncommon in pet store Guinea Pigs. Take them both into see the vet for their treatment of ivermectin and to get the next two dosages sent home with you. The mites will clear up in a few days time. Remember to thoroughly clean and disinfect the living quarters before placing them in there again after seeing the vet.

I hope this helps,
 Take care,
