Question
Hello,

I have one guinea pig, and her name is Marble. I was thinking about getting a seccone guinea pig, but could not find any info about how the two would react. Should I get a boy or a girl piggie (if i get one). Ive had Marble for about 3 mounths now, so im new at this. Help.

Answer
Hello, if you decide to get another guinea pig you may need to get another cage. The cage would need to be at least 3 feet wide by 5 feet long. Also, neither one of the guinea pigs should actually see the new cage. It's also better to get another guinea pig that is the same gender as yours already. This will help reduce fights and complications. You will need to place the new guinea pig in a room of the house where neither your new guinea pig or your old guinea pig has been to. Let the new guinea pig roam around the room or the closed off area where you want to introduce both guinea pigs. Then after 20min place the older guinea pig into the habitat along with the new one. Watch them closely to make sure they don't start fighting or growling. If they seem to get along well you can place the new guinea pig in the new bigger cage first and wait 20min and then place the older guinea pig in the cage and watch them both. With two guinea pigs you will need double the food, water and attention. You will need to clean the cage more often as well since it will smell pretty bad with two guinea pigs. :-)
