guinea pigs out of cage time

when i take out my guinea pig (cleverly named Pigg) she jumps around and suddenly runs under the couch!! the only way we can get her out is if we poke her with a broom, don't worry we don't hurt her. why does she do this? Also are there any benifits to making a homemade cage?

The guinea pig is probly scared of the new smells and things when shes outside of her cage so she goes under the couch, also when guinea pigs jump around and twist around while in the air they are happy this is called "pop corning". You should put a piece of wood or cardboard in front of teh couch so she cant go under while shes out also be sure she cant get to wires because guinea pigs chew everything, also offer her a carboard box with large holes cut in it while shes out so she has a place to hide. There are a few benifits to making a cage these are; you can make it the exact size you want, it can be made out of what you want also its nice to know that your guinea pig is having the time of its life running around in a cage you built for her.
