guinea pig/digging

Question
Yes, we do have a igloo.  I guess then it's a behavior problem.  Do you know how I can break that habit?  Or should I just let her be?  Also when she is hungry she bites the cage.  Is that another behavior problem?  Is it ok that we do still pick her up.  Even though she does get mad everytime we try to pick her up.  Should we leave her alone?  Thanks again.

Answer
JoAnn -

I wouldn't worry about the digging.  As long as she's not harming herself or her pups, its just a wierd habit she's picked up and nothing to concern about.

About the cage chewing - it's just that, chewing.  I had a guinea pig (my first, actually) that LOVED to chew the cage.  In fact, he would rattle the cage so loudly you could hear it outside the house.  It's part of their attempts to wear down their teeth, and just another habit.  I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, absolutely keep picking her up, if you can't find a medical reason not to.  You don't want her to get the idea that she's the boss - because then you'll have a hard time getting her to do ANYTHING.  :)  Eventually she'll come around again.  Just remember to be patient.  :)

Hope this is helpful.  If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.  Thanks!
