Question
hi, this guinea pig i've had for about two weeks, she still quite small, about four weeks old, is afraid of everything, when i first brought her home, she was just shy... but then she became frighten of everything, whenever i try to pick her up, she'd show signs of distress at first, but as time progressed now she even squeals and tries to run away showing more signs of fright. is this natural? what can i do?

Answer
Hi Admael

If the guinea pig is only 4 weeks old and on her own, she is probably missing her mum. In fact, 4 weeks is very early for a baby pig to leave the mother.

Just be patient. Try putting an item with your scent on (such as a piece of clothing)so she gets used to you, but continue to stop by the cage and speak gently to the pig. Also try to get her to go on your knee and let her sit there with you. In time things should improve, but I think the main problem is that she is still just very young.

Hope this helps
