Question
umm i actually have 3 questions, and i hope you dont mind that i am only using one email/question. first of all, i check my piggie's teeth every week, and some weeks, i notice they are extremly dirty. i know chew toys should clean his teeth, but he doesnt really play. i have given him wood, almonds and cholla flowers but he just pees on them. how will i keep his teeth clean? he used to chew on his pigloo, but after he made a small hole in the roof, he stopped. my second question is, for the past few weeks, i have noticed that sometimes when i take my piggie outside, he has a loose ,sickly yellow coating over his lips. it has only happened twice in the past 3 or 4 weeks, and he shows no sign of discomfort. as he eats, the casing soon falls off or gets consumed. what is it? should i be worried? lastly, i wanted to know if my piggie was ok weight wise. after a recent meal, he weighed about 2.3 lbs. i feed him apples, banana's, spinach, cucumbers, celery, dill, orange, swiss chard, and grass, along with his pellets and timothy hay; and he is fed grass once in the morning and in the evening he eats more grass, and at night i give him some vegetables or something. he doesnt do much exercise, and as i mentioned earlier, he is not very fond of toys. i take him outside to graze once each morning and once each evening, but all he does is eat or rest. he will purr and sit in my lap, etc; but he doesnt run or move much. whenever i take him outside, i put a sheet over him, because if he is  not covered, he panics and will run into an extremly large thicket of bushes, which makes it very hard for me to get him out. what should i do? should i give him walks? is his lazy behavior normal?

Answer
Hi Harshita

1. Guinea pigs teeth are naturally more yellow than ours but there is nothing to stop you giving them a brush.

2. In regard to the lips, do you keep him inside and you mean you are letting him run round the garden, or do you keep in outside and just mean you are taking him out of his cage?

3. Your piggies weight is fine. Typically a healthy pig weighs between 2 and 3.5lbs. Some pigs are lazy, I have one like this too. This is not at all something to worry about.
