Sneezing and scratching.

Question
Hi, my guinea pigs have been sneezing lately but I'm not sure if it's normal or not. I've read about it and I understand it might be an Uri but they mostly sneeze around the hay and I'm thinking maybe it's because it's dusty. They don't sneeze all the time it's like every other day. Also my guinea pigs both itch a lot. Again not sure if it's normal. I bought a flea comb to check and didn't find anything. I even gave them a bath (not with a flea shampoo) and still nothing. They scratch all the time. My oldest Bettie already had revolution before I adopted her and I was thinking of doing now, but I don't know if it's ok to use revolution as a "just in case" thing.

ps- One of my piggies is an Abyssinian can you give me a tip  on how I can reduce her shedding?
Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi
I would try bedding them out on shredded newspaper - its perfectly safe as the printer ink is soya based. They will enjoy mooching about in amongst the shreds too :)
Keep using the hay for feeding tho as all piggies need hay.

As for the itching, this may also be linked to the dusty hay so see if the change of bedding helps.
If the itching persists, try bathing them in a brand of nit shampoo for children such as Prioderm.
Bathe them in it twice a week for 2 weeks, leaving the lather on for a few minutes and rinse really well. Make sure the hair is totally dry before returning the piggies to their lving area

Abby shedding, hmmmmm, You could try trimming her hair a little but you wont be able to stop the shedding as its a natural process to help keep her cool if she gets too hot.
