Using foodbowl as litter box

Question
Mocha which is 4 weeks old, keeps backing up and using the food bowl as her litter box to urinate. She does not poop in it just urinates in it. So needless to say I have to change the food 3 or 4 times a day. Is there a reason she could be doing this? Would it help if I bought one of the little litter boxes that you can use on hamster's? It is very frustrating.

Answer
Hello Hollie,

It sounds as if you are very lucky and have one of the few piggies who can be litter box trained. Yes, getting a litter box may work wonders, if you can get her to use it. Although get a rabbit or ferret sized one as a hamster one will be too small. Just place some of the soiled bedding into the litter box and hopefully she'll get the idea (if there is no bedding in the bowl, just pour the contents over the bedding in the box). Good luck! And when she gets a bit too frustrating, remember she's a very special piggy. It's a rare find to have one who has the potiental for litter training.
