Guinea Pig Bedding

Hello,
    I have been using CareFresh bedding from a petstore as  bedding for my two (male) guinea pigs. Since they are caged separately, I have to buy double the bedding and it's getting to be very expensive. I was wondering if you knew of any bedding you could make at home for the guinea pigs? My mom suggested newspaper, but I was concerned about germs and the ink. Thanks for taking time to answer this!

I wouldn't suggest using newspaper as they will most certainly nibble at it, and a small amount isn't harmful but when they eat it every day it shall be. If there is a local horse stable near you then I would enquire there to see where they get their hay and wood shavings from. I have many guinea pigs all in several different hutches so you can imagine how expensive that must be and I buy big bales of hay, and sawdust/woodshavings from my local horse stable. I find this is the most economical way.
