My guinea pig died, what happened??

My guinea pig stopped eating one day after returning from the vet for a routine nail trim.  He started having a foul odor, he was drooling a little bit (moisture on neck), and after a syringe feeding he had a burst of watery feces with blood.  I also thought I saw something white come out of his tail end.  He died several hours after the feeding.  What could have happened and why did he die so fast???  Any explanation would help as I am surprisingly upset.  I bought him for my son but, I became very attached to him.

I am so sorry to hear your news.

Guinea pigs hide illness very well so its quite possible he had been sick for a while before he stopped eating. From what you describe, the most likely cause was a bacterial infection.
