Question
Our guinea pig was perfectly fine last night and then all of a sudden he started to week a lot.  we didn't know what was wrong. then this morning we woke up and he was just laying around and it seemed like he was convulsing.  he also tries to move around but he cant move his back legs at all. i haven't been able to watch him to see if he is eating and drinking properly, but will when i get home tonight. we also don't have the money to take him to the vet.  what is wrong and what can we do?

Answer
Hello Patrick,

I'm not sure there is much you can do without a vet other than keep him comfortable. It sounds like he may have had a stroke that is now causing seizures. He may get through this with special care and if the seizures stop. Just try to make him comfortable, make everything easily within his reach and make sure he eats and drinks, force feed him if you have to. In time he may improve but he may have permanant issues walking. If you can get him to the vet, it would be best, but if not just do what you can to help him be comfortable. A vet may be able to tell you exactly what is going on, but, to me,  it sounds like a stroke. I'm so sorry and I hope he improves soon. Good luck! He'll be in my prayers.
