How old until they can play in a guinea pig ball?

Our 2 new guinea pigs were 3 weeks old on Christmas Eve.  We have had guinea pigs before but they have been older an larger.  The kids want to get each of them a ball to roll around on the floor in.  Do we need to wait until the pigs are older?

Actually, guinea pigs should never run or play in those balls. Balls and wheels are meant for hamsters and gerbils to use, and they are very dangerous for guinea pigs. These devices can injure a guinea pig in many ways, but the most common issues guinea pigs have are related to spinal injuries.
