stray chihuahua..found possibly in labor

Hi, My husband woke to a dog crying this morning and found a small 3-5 lb chihuahua on our step. She looks like she might be in labor and having problems. Never delivered pups before so dont have a clue what to do for her. She looks to be contracting and bearing down but nothing but a small bulb of liquid has emerged 2 times already which she burst. Am waiting for a vet to return my call at this time, and no animal emergency hospital here at all. Please help. Poor little thing doesnt deserve to be in this much pain. This is such a crime for someone to just abandon their dog, especially in this condition. Thanks for all the help you can provide in advance.

The best thing for you to do is wait for the veterinarian to call you back. If you can find a rescue in your area, someone might be able to assist you. From what you area explaining, her sack is coming out...each puppy is I'm its own sack. If you can, take her to the veterinarian, if there are any complications it will make it easier to help her. A lot if little breed dogs need assistance with delivery especially if the puppies are large.
