QuestionMy pug is due to have pups the first week of May. What do I need to have on hand to assist her other than a whelping box, newspaper, towels, and water and dish?
AnswerHi Nancy --
Some lines of Pugs don't or can't whelp naturally, they often require C-sections. They are also have a higher incident rate of neglecting and or ignoring their pups.
Keep in mind that's not ALL Pugs just a vast majority. Keep your vet's number close at hand.
Although we may go overboard, I like to be prepared for any eventuality and keep on hand, oxytocin and syringes with needles, Calsorb, oxygen, rectal thermometer, antibiotics, NutraStat, Latex gloves, K-Y Jelly, the list is endless.
You would be okay with Oxytocin, NutraStat (glucose) and Calsorb (calcium).
