bad breath!

Question
My dachshund is almost 5 years old, and she has the worst doggy breath ever. She's been to the vet and there's nothing wrong with her mouth, no rotting teeth or anything. Her breath just really smells bad. We've tried brushing her teeth, but no luck, and a vet teeth cleaning is way out of the budget. Do you know of any "doggy mints" or special bones that could help? Thank you very much!

Answer
Hannah,
The best things I have found for foul smelling doggy breath is the greenies, and brushing regularly along with
brushing the tongue if the dog will let you.
The three together done in consistency will aide your dog
tremendously. It might take a week to two weeks before you
notice a difference but it will work.
I have noticed also that if a dog is getting more wet food
than dry they usually have bad breath. The dry food helps
eliminate plaque from the teeth and the tongue which combined cause the odor.
But I highly recommend the greenies. They have improved
their product since they first came out and I use them with
my clients and my two Yorkies.
Dental work at the vet's office is very expensive and I
know how that hurts anyone's budget. But there are plenty
of things you can do right at home.
Another trick for quick results till the other method
starts to show results is to brush your dogs teeth with
baking soda two to three times a week for up to two weeks.
That should give a great boost to your dogs dental health
and the other method will take over from there.
I would also recommend doing a baking soda brushing maybe
once a month once things have started to work. It is just
a great maintenance for their teeth.
I hope I have been helpful to you. Good luck and God Bless!
