Question
My Shih Tzu, Buddy, has an infected toenail. What should I do with it opposed to going to the vet, which I will if necessary.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Carolyn, Well, You can try a few things and If they don't work, Please see your local vet...
OK?
1.  Wash the area with some Witch Hazel - Place a good amount of Witch Hazel liquid on a cotton pad or wash cloth - blot the claw area with this solution 2 x per day.
2.  At night place some neosporin ( or triple antibiotic ointment) on the area ( pea size amount)
3.  You can get some EMT spray and spray that onto the area 1 x per day - BUT don't use the neosporin if you use the EMT spray...
EMT spray is a collagen base - sold at many Hunter supply stores and pet stores.
