Pomeranian Shedding

Question
My male Pom is about 10 months old and is going through a MAJOR shedding cycle.  I have to brush him every day.  Today I noticed that I can grab a batch of hair between my fingers and pull a considerable amount out at a time without any effort.  It is not making any bald spots by any means but it is just the extremely long outer coat that seems to be coming out almost in handfuls.  His outer coat is very harsh and every bit of 6 inches long down the center of his back and about 3 or so inches wide.  My question is, is the ability to pull his hair out in handfuls normal or should I be concerned about it?  Also, do you think his next coat will come in like this or will it come in differently?  Do I need to expect this same thing each year?  Should I take him to the vet?  Thanks for your help!

Answer
He is probably just losing his puppy coat.  When his adult coat comes in it should not shed so drastically.  Make sure you are feeding him a good quality diet--all natural with meat as first ingredient and no corn or by-products is best.   You can also supplement his diet with fish oil.
