Question
we have a problem.
we have 2 house cats that are horribly infested with fleas.
dear god help us...

we are getting LARGE amounts of flea bites on our bodies. Our
cats are scratching themselves so constantly that I believe that
they are going bald. We have tried flea shampoo, advantage,
various types of flea collars, yet nothing works. THEY KEEP
COMING BACK! We bombed our appartment twice with this
medicine thing. (cleaned our blankets, cleaned cats, cleared our
closets, the whole works...)

As an expert, can you be so kind as to give us an advice to
quickly and efficiently keep these annoying fleas away?
(any brand names you might recommend? stronger bombs?
anything??) we are desperate!

Answer
The fleas will not go away overnite.  Having this bad of a problem will take several months to totally eradicate because there are eggs and larva in the house that will hatch into adults in weeks or months.

Your best bet is to use ADVANTAGE from your veterinarian and apply it every 3-4 weeks.  Baths do not work and neither do flea collars.  You must continue to use the Advantage EVERY MONTH and keep applying it YEAR-ROUND regardless if you see fleas or not.

Bombs in the house do not work because they do not get into the cracks and crevices.  You need to use an area treatment spray and spray it EVERYWHERE.  Before you spray you should vacuum EVERYTHING very thoroughly and then THROW AWAY the vacuum bag.  In the new bag, put a flea collar in to help kill any residual fleas you may vacuum up.

And I would suggest that you take the cats to the vet for a check-up as they may need medication to help control the itching in addition to the Advantage.
