Question
Dear Jennifer,
I have just puchased a pit-bull puppy.  I gave my puppy an 8 in one shot.  Every time i have done this in the past there would be a knot on the dogs neck where I administerd the shot.  I was told that if there wasn't a knot, that the medicine didn't go where it was supposed to go.  Well there wasn't a knot this time...and i'm worried that I didn't administer the shot correctly.  Since there wasn't a knot do i need to administer another shot?  Please get back with me as soon as possible. Thank you so much!

Answer
The vaccine should be given UNDER the skin and really you shouldn't feel a knot...there may be a VERY SLIGHT bump from the liquid but really when done corectly you don't feel anything--I always rub the area after I give the vaccine too.  If you give it in between the layers of skin you will get a knot.  If the hair coat was NOT wet after you administered the shot, then it went in.
