weeze / gag

Question
I have a 12 yr old Long Hair Chihuahua mix.

Just lately I've noticed a small high pitched weeze from him. In watching he appears to almost be gagging, but5 more like he's trying to get something out of his throat.

When I assist him, he appears just fine. I have had him drink liquids. No help. And he doesn't appear to have any other issues.

I'm wondering if he's taking in any fur when he bites himself. He has had some extra shedding.

With this limited information, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Anytime a chihuahua starts to cough or gag repeatedly it's time for a trip to the vets. Could be nothing, could be the start of a collapsing trachea. Could be heart issues, could be heartworm.
Fur in his mouth won't usually make him gag or cough.

Either way your vet needs to look him over. Call and make him an appointment soon.
