Blood in the urine

Question
Hello, I have a five year old dog. She is prone to having seizures. The past few weeks we have noticed an odor from her "vaginal" area. This week she has had multiple accidents in the house (which is not normal). When these occur the urine is a dark color with blot clots in it. The odor from the urine is very strong and very offensive. We are not sure what to do. The vet will not get us in until late next week. Any suggestions or ideas as to what is happening to our dog? Thank you for any info you can provide.

Answer
She could possibly have either a bladder infection or bladder stones. With either one she would have accidents in the house. If she has an infection she could have blood but with stones blood is common. The smell is most likely the old blood getting on the hair that smells as well as the bacteria which is what the smell is coming from.

There isn't much you can do until you get her in to see the vet. Make sure she is drinking plenty of clean water.
