Question
Hi, I think my dwarf hamster is going blind in both eyes... I don't know allot about them and have been looking up information but i cant seem to find out how i could tell if she is... her name is Ellie and she is almost 2. I haven't ever thought to look, but when i put her into her ball she hits into allot of walls. It looks to me like she is using her whiskers for everything... Can you tell me how you can tell if they are blind?

Answer
It is difficult to tell if they are blind. The best would be to go to a veterinarian who specializes in little critters. She would be able to use a special instrument to look inside the eye to see what was happening. You could try to set up a maze, with food at the end, or put obstacles in her way and see if she bumps into them.

I would look for exotic clinics who specialize in holistic methods as they can help you the most. Go to www.theAVH.org; www.IVAS.org; www.TCVM.com; www.AHVMA.org. Search for exotics and your state.

Good healing,
