QuestionHi there,
My friend has a cat that just got diagnosed with diabetes. I convinced him to take care of it instead of putting it down. How hard is this going to be for him? Approximate cost per month? And can it be controlled with food instead of insulin.
Thank You!
AnswerLeigh - sometimes you can control diabetes with food .... Depends on the pancreas and if it can still make insulin. The vet will give it a test and see how the blood glucose ( sugar) levels go. This test will cost around 200.00 and the cat will be at the vet office for at least 6 hrs.
Insulin is not expensive at all. It is just a matter of regulating the blood sugars and the blood tests can be done monthly for a few months. Until they get the cat leveled off to a safe place.
So, the answer is - not too expensive..... Could be worse.
BEST wishes
