QUESTION: Hi, my name is Cindy and i have a big problem, I will give you some back ground info on the animals i will be asking about :
St.bernard cross - 15 years old - neutered - began to itch his back, after about a week he was bald all down his back, we got him tested for mange, fleas, ticks, deaise - turned up nothing  - vet gave us ivamec, antibiotics, and creams to put on him, after about another week of this his back was OOZING puss, and was crusty, we brought him back to the vets office and they did a skin biopsy, this turned up a skin infection also inconclusive because of all the treatments, it went away after another 2 months, he got it back and seemed to be getting mental probs. in the end he was put down because he began jumping out windows and killed our cat.
Great Pyrenees - same thing, but got better with no reacerances.
4 rats, 2 got the same thing as above and died -  1 survives - with bald patches where the rash was - one lost his feet and had to be put down.
14 Cats -
cat # 1 - feet swelled up twice there normal size - lost her nails - partly paralyzes - had to be put down
cat # 2  - same thing as the dogs - lost his toes - nails, and had to be put down
cat # 3 - 6 weeks old - lost tail - ears - feet - when blind and began having seizures - died
cat # 4 - was doing wonderful - in a matter of hours, having seizures - vomiting, attacking everything - passed away in one of the spasms
cat # 5 - very old  - would not eat or drink - did not get rash - but began getting very aggressive and had to be put down
cat # 6 - seizures and had to be put down
cat # 7 -  got out one day came back preg. she had the kittens - one was born black - with no hair - no tail - or ears - the rest were fine up till 3 weeks of age when they started dieing and having seizures mother passed away from rash
cats #S 7 - 14 all died from rash or seizures
Maltese dog - old - started having seizures - spasms and vomiting - lasted 2 days and got put down
Rabbit - had seizure - passed away
All of this happened within 6 months
we moved to a farm where within a week, in the corrals we found 16 dead coyotes, 1 dead dog, 100s of dead mice, birds etc.
later we found out that the man that lived here had the rashes all over his legs.
We brought most of the animals to the vets and all of it cost more then 2000 dollars and none of the vets can figure out what this is

ANY IDEAS?!?!

ANSWER: Hello Rikki - Wow, I am so sorry about this terrible situation you have found yourself in.  I wonder if you can have the soil tested because it sounds like Radiation poisoning.  There may be something buried in the yard... Or, could it be the water, well?

Boy, I wish that I could help..... Must be something in the environment. Don't you think so?

QUESTION: hi, we have called Enviroment canada, and the only thing that they said was to get off the property ASAP.
it couldnt be the water as we are on town water.

Oh Cindy-  If you were in the USA you would have had help. I wonder if you can contact a University and ask the Environmental or Geological departments if they would like a challenge for the students?  My ex husband was a Geologist student and they did many studies thru the school that were just volunteer.  It gave them some good experience.  That may be a way to get some free help for your situation.

Sorry, I know if the USA there are many groups that would jump at the chance to help you...
They like to find a good environmental hazard.

Can you contact some kind of a lawyer... Do you have a mortgage on this house?  Are you renting?
What part of Canada are you in?
