raw irritated skin

Question
My wife and I have a Himalayan that has developed a raw irritated area (lost hair)under the left eye down to the left side of the lip.  Nothing seems to be helping to cure it.  I use peroxide and an atiseptic to clean it then I apply a gel for irritated skin (purchased from Petco)and it will appear to be drying up, then he, the cat will of course rub it with his paw and it will be damp and wet looking. This has been going on for a few weeks.  I am really hoping to find an over the counter medication because I really can't afford a visit to the Vet.  He is a declawed indoor cat, never goes outdoors and does not have fleas.
Thanks!  I really appreciate your help!

Answer
Unfortunately, this type of facial lesion requires veterinarey help. Some cats with ear mites can show this type of lesion.  What this probably is is called a linear eosinophilic granuloma. These are often related to an allergy of sdome type, such as a food allergy, mosquito bite allergy, or some type of pollen or mold allergy.
