switching from Revolution to Frontline Plus (cats)

My 7-yrs-old cat (an ordinary tabby, not any pure breed) is on Revolution. He goes out daily for 5 minutes or so and has a habit of playing in sand and grass. Mosquitoes and ticks are also around in abundance. Accordingly, I would like to place him on Frontline Plus, at least for the Fall (the most active time for fleas, mosquitoes and ticks in our area). However, I was told that switching from Revolution to Frontline willmake my cat sick. Is this true? I did not contact Merial yet. Thank you.

I would do the Revolution plus Heartguard.
