pooping problems

Question
Hi, my 10 month old Alaskan Malamute, Max, is having some pooping problems.  Approx. 3 weeks ago I switched his dog food from a puppy food to the adult formula of the same brand.  I did this because he weighs over 100 lbs and he was choking on the puppy bite size pieces.  Anyway, I realize now that I should have done it slowly, not all at once, as my dog had the diarrhea afterwards.  Well, he still has it (3 weeks later), but it's not really diarrhea.  It's just a HUGE glob of soft stool (it's not watery).  Is this normal, or is there another problem.  He also eats fresh raw carrots for a treat.  Other than that he gets NO people food.  His behavior has not changed, he still plays, eats like a horse, and drinks water alright.  He just wants out anywhere from 3 am to 5 am.  ANy suggestions?

Answer
I would take a stool sample to the vet to rule out any intestinal parasites.

Stop the dog food for now.  Cook him some boiled burger and rice with a lot of plain yogurt for the next several days to see if his stool becomes more normal...if so, then gradually add in the adult food to the burger and rice and transition him to the dog food over 1-2 weeks.  If the diarrhea returns with the addition of the dog food, then there is something in there that he is allergic too, and you should look for another brand.
