Pottery in fish tank

Question
Hi Chris.

I am going to be setting up a tank in a couple of months and would like to make my own decorations out of pottery.  I would be using the same clay and glazes that I use for food safe items (they can go in the oven & dishwasher).  Is there anything that I have to be careful of?  is it okay if the pottery is not 100% glazed?

Thank you for your time Chris.
Jennifer

Answer
Hi Jennifer;

I think they are fine as long as food safe. Avoid metallic glazes though. They could be toxic over a period of time. The pottery itself should pose no problems either. Clay pots from nurseries are used for fish to breed in all the time.

Have fun! Sounds like a great project!
