Green Water = Plants need to go??

Question
Hi Chelsey,  I had asked this question earlier to another gentleman and his answer was that it could be the plants and that is why he doesn't deal with live plants.  would you happen to have any other advice b/c I am under the impression they can coexist and still have a clear water tank.

"I have a 50 gallon hex tank with Penguin 170 Bio wheel filtration.  I am alsr running two seperate medium sized air stones.  It is planted 6 or seven various plant type bundles from Petsmart. and I have a CoraLife Quad light.  8 neons, 8 silver dollars are all that I have in there for now.  Tank cycle is around 2 months I would say.  I am recovering from a pretty large Algae bloom in which the water was pea soup green a couple weeks back and amonia was runnning high.  I was told it was from to much lighting so I cut that back and I have been doing 25% water changes every other day.  It has cleared up substantially but still keeping a bit of that green cloudy tinge.  Any suggestions on clearing that up?  I put in a power filter to run from time to time to stir things up a bit as to push more over to the Penguin Filter.  Amonia is still present but not as bad as it had been.  Any secrets on keeping it clear would be much appreciated and the rocks have been cleaned with a Python so not dirty there.  "

Answer
Hey Jay,
It could just be some discoloration from the plants, but if this is it it is probably harmless to your fish. Try Taking out the plants and rinsing them, and keep doing the water changes.

It could also be the algae still lingering around. Some algae can be stubborn. Keep doing the water changes, and consider getting some medicine for algae, which should kill any algae that might remain.

good luck with everything, feel free to ask future questions. =]
best wishes, chelsey
