condensation???

Question
We have a custom cherry cabinet that we designed to hold a 30" long 29" high fish tank, leaving around 2-3" at top of cherry cabinet.  Our question is will the condensation from the fish tank rot/effect the custom wood work above it?  We were told it would and should go with a 24" high tank.

Answer
Hello,

Yes, moisture always affects wood in that way- it doesn't matter where the moisture is coming from. In the case of your fishtank, you may be able to cover the wood at the top or work out some sort of condensation barrier to protect your wood. Unfortunately I can't be of more assistance, because woodwork is not exactly my specialty. Best of luck.
