Fresh water fish tank

Question
I have both fresh water tanks and salt. I noticed all of a sudden the water on my fresh water tank has a foam or bubble surface on the top of the water. It doesn't seem to be effecting the fish but it has been present now for two weeks and I can't seem to  get rid of it. What do you think could be the cause.

Answer
Hi Kevin,
Usually bubbles on the top of the water surface are caused by an excess of dissolved organics in the water. It will coat the bubbles and make them more difficult to pop and they will collect often in large masses as if soap were in the tank water.

The best thing to do is to start daily 30-50% water changes, thorough gravel vacuuming to get to hidden waste material (especially underneath decorations) and a quick filter cleaning (only rinse clogged filter pads in a fish-safe bucket of tank water).

This process may have to be repeated a few times until the foaminess goes away.

Best of luck and I hope this helps!
Karen~
