Birth of fish

I just purchased 2 pregnant mollies today. What signs do I need to look for to know if they are about to birth?

Hi Tammie;

Female mollies will eventually have a "boxy" look to their bellies 5 to 7 days before babies are born. They get a bit flattish on the bottom and the sides. They also hide more about a week or so before delivery. Hiding can also indicate other things such as water quality problems, disease and bullying by other fish so be sure to keep their tank clean with a weekly water change of 25% and gravel vacuuming, keep them with compatible fish and don't overstock your tank. Watch for signs of disease such as spots, dots, or abnormal areas, etc. And most of all, enjoy those little gals and their new families once they arrive..... ;-)
