changing to a new filter

Question
I have a 75 gallon used aquarium that came with a whisper filter and it has been running about 3 weeks. I wanted a better filter so I got a Emperor 400 filter and now I am hesitant to change it out. What would be the safest way to go about this? We have 3 black tetras, 3 silver dollars , 2 gold gouramis, 2 rainbow shark, and 7 little mixed platys. Now I am reading on this great site all the things I should have found to begin with.
Also I have a 26 gallon that I just have one large chocolate Oranda and plan on one more when I find one. This set up came with an Aqueon 30 filter and I think maybe I need something stonger for my fancy goldfish. This tank has been running about 5 weeks. What do you think would be the most efficient filter for the chocolate orandas?
Thanks for any advice!

Answer
Hi Glenda

Rather than replace the filter in the 75g and possibly starting the cycle process all over again, add the Emperor 400 as a second filter to the other side of the tank. I run multiple filters in my larger tanks that are 40 gallons and larger. I also always use the next step up from what my aquariums require.

Although a Penguin 150B is recommended for tanks to 30 gallons, a Penguin 200B is what I would use in the 26 gallon. You can also use this filter as a second filter to the Aqueon.

Hope this helps, good luck!
