White covering on a black googly eye

Question
I have just bought a black googly fish to add to my aquarium, which currently holds 4 other goldfish.  Since I bought it, there seems to be what looks like a fungus like covering over one of its eyes, there also looks to be some white spots on the end of its tail as well.  Can you help me out, as it is only this one fish that seems infected. All my other goldfish are healthy and seem to be quite happy in the tank.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Louise,
Sounds like a fungal infection. Which is common on the delicate eyes of those types of goldfish.

The best thing to do is do a 50% water change and treat with Jungle Brand "Fungus Clear" -- this medication has worked out very well for me in the past. I've also used aquarium salt along with this med to help deter fungal growth. Predissolve it first.

If at all possible to move the black goldfish into a separate hospital then that would be ideal. To prevent the other fish from having to tolerate the medication but if that's not possible then they can make it through alright with treating the main aquarium.

Treat for as long as symptoms show. This goes against medication directions in most cases. But I've seen no harm done and its important to treat for at least a few days after all symptoms disappear to insure the infection is gone for certain.

I do hope this helps and best of luck!
Karen~
