Question
I have a 38gal hexagon tank that is about 22" tall. I have 8 Giant Danios, 3 red eyed tetra and 3 cory cats. My problem is the tetra are usually at mid or bottom of the tank. so when feed flakes the are almost all eaeten before it gets done to the tetras. I also feed soom shrimp pellets to the corys. I can make sure the corys are getting feed. The Danios are just to fast and get to the flakes so quickly. The tetras are the last to get in the tank. they seem more reserved now. Will they get bolder and cmpete for the flakes in the future, or is there smething I can do now to help them.

Answer
Dear John,
That is quite odd. Red-eye tetras tend to be quite boisterous and active swimmers. But the Giant Danios are even faster. Feeding a mixed community of both fast and docile fish takes special care to insure everyone gets fed. I have found that the best way to feed large groups of active fish and docile fish at the same time is to dip a small pinch of flakes into the water so it sinks and swirls around. This is more than tempting to even quite docile fish. You may also try distracting the Giant Danios on one side of the aquarium with some food and then putting a small pinch of flakes on the other end so they sink. With these techniques for feedings your Red-eyes should get all they need at every meal. Maybe your red eye tetras would become more active if they had a big larger school. Adding about 3 more may help them become more active.

I really hope this helps!
Best wishes,
Karen~
