freshwater aquarium salinity

Question
I am looking for a chart to tell me what the salinity of my tank should be.  Its a 50 gallon tank.

Answer
Hi Dana;

I don't know of a chart available. I user a standard measurement of 1/2 teaspoon per gallon for general purposes like stress and disease prevention and giving the fish electrolytes. I use one teaspoon per gallon in tanks with mollies and other livebearers, as well as treating disease and getting fish through "new tank syndrome". One to three teaspoons per gallon for puffers, scats, bumblebee gobies monos,etc., depending on what these brackish fish are used to.

What kind of fish do you have and what will the salt be needed to do?
