Question
Hello Nathan,

I did ask you questions about my goldfih fry earlier on.
Well they are now in a 30 Litre tank with a sponge filter, i know it's still not big enough but better than a bucket.

1) I was wondering, they are now 3 weeks old, so when will I know how many are going to survive as i still have about 100.

My Tetra Questions.
I have 16 neon tetra in a 200 Litre tank (sorry can't use gallons) with various other fish but i was wondering about the best breeding conditions, as when my goldfish get a bit bigger i have a small pond for them, so my 30 Litre tank will be spare, i was planning to heavily plant it and add some neons for breeding, so what do you advise?

I know  Tetra's eggs cant have light so how do i know when the parents have spawned and when can i turn on the lights, if they hatch.

Thank you

Answer
Hi Lauren,

If you take good care of the fish, you should have at least a 80% survival rate, especially since they are three weeks old. Don't be surprised if 99 or 100% of them survive! Just keep doing those partial water changes!

I would add about 4 or so Neons, (since it's almost impossible to tell the difference between male and female), and plant the tank with plants such as Java Moss. It would be too long to describe the whole process of breeding them here, so see this link, and scroll down to the bottom:

Perfect, and I mean PERFECT, water quality is essential in breeding Neons.

P.S. To convert liters to gallons, divide by 3.78. (Don't worry about it, I can do the math.)

Good Luck, and Happy Fishkeeping!
