Goldfish babies

Question
I have a very simple question that seems almost impossible to find an answer for! I have been searching the internet for a week now and have had no luck so i thought i would ask an expert on the subject. All i wish to know is what a newborn goldfish looks like and what colour they are. My son has a pair of goldfish and keeps his tank rather clean. Last week he noticed both fish acting strange. The "fat" one appeared to lay eggs on a plant and then the "skinny" one spread something white over them. This is how he told me. Now he has things in his tank that seem to look like mini sized skiiny worms with black eyes. Are these baby goldfish or something else? If his fish do have babies, what exactly do they look like so we know? Thank you

Answer
Hi Tenille;

Cool! Sounds like the goldfish did indeed spawn. Baby goldfish do look a little strange, long and skinny with black eyes. Here is a web page with photos of them to see if that's what the little "worms" are;

The parents will eat the babies so if they are not separated already, they need to be if your friend wants to raise them.

Good luck!
