fin nipped

Question
i work for a local aquatic store and spotted a lemon goldfish in one of the tanks who appeared to be missing her tail, through genetics. i thought she looked awesome so i wanted to take her home and did so. she spent her first night in my 3ft tank in a divided bit for fear of a bit of nipping going on, until she got her own tank. i came home form work the following day to find that my weather loaches had gotten over the divide and nipped her to heck. removing scales from her body and nipping at her anal and dorsal fins. i am treating her with melafix and pimafix in salt and she is strong and still eating. the only thing that worries me is keeping her clean and that her anal fin is nipped right back to her body. i love the little thing and am distraught at what has happened. am i doing all i can?
ps. i am doing large water changes everyday but will this affect the concentrations of mela/pimafic i need to add?

Answer
Hello,

Melafix, Pimafix and salt is a good combination to help your goldfish recover. However, I would recommend not doing the large water changes daily, unless you have a serious water quality problem. You should only change about 15% of your water weekly on average because otherwise, you are removing good bacteria and good concentrations of medicines.

If you do have a water quality problem and nothing can be done but change large amounts of water, then try adding a dose of medicine to the water you add, so you take it out but put it right back in with the new water.

I hope this helps

Good-luck,
