Cloudy water/Platys

Question
Hello,
I seem to have a little cloudy water in my tank and was wondering what I should do about it and what may have caused it.  I have only a 10g tank, which is a few months old.  I had 2 adult platies and 1 baby, 1 fake plant and 1 live plant.  On Saturday morning I did a small water change and everything seemed fine.  On Sunday I ended up adding 1 more platy to make 4.  Today being Monday I noticed the water had become a little bit cloudy.  Did this new fish cause it?  Did it bring a bacteria into my tank?
Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi Lori,
Cloudy water is common especially in somewhat new tanks. Its usually due to bacterial bloom due to an overabundance of nutrients. Perhaps water changes are infrequent. And stepping them up to for example, twice a week instead of once a week can help a lot. Also be careful you aren't overfeeding too much. Only feed as much as they can clean up in several seconds.

Sometimes cloudiness will occur after a water change due to slight change in the chemistry with the new water but all is fine.

The cloudiness should clear on its own or you can help it out with doing a big 30-50% water change for a couple of days.

Best of luck and I hope this helps!
Karen~
