I need to know what it means when your fish is not swimming right,my fish is floating around not able to swim well like normally,he's rolling around and most of the time he is upside down i have a goldfish ryukin. Can you let me know whats wrong with my fish??Or what i could do???

Answer
Hi David,

Not swimming right means not being able to swim normally, like your fish.

Your fish has Swim Bladder disease. The Swim Bladder is a small, gas-filled organ inside your fish. By adding or releasing air into the bladder, the fish can choose whether to sink or float. Something is likely wrong with the swim bladder, and that is why your fish is having difficulty swimming.

If your fish still accepts food, feed him/her a fresh or defrosted pea (shell removed). This is often considered an effective cure for Goldfish, and it's as easy as walking to the freezer. See if that works.

The swim bladder could potentially be infected with a bacterial infection. If the peas do not work, then buy an anti-bacterial medication at your local fish store, such as Maracyn, Sera Baktopur, or MelaFix. Dose according to the package, and change 50% of the water first, and remove any carbon from your filter.

No matter what method you use, or both, change at least 20% of the water in your aquarium first to promote recovery and remove toxins.

Good Luck, and I hope your fish recovers!
