velvet wag swordtail

I had a male swordtail die recently and i noticed his eyes were red, almost like they had begun bleeding.  And I just noticed today, two days later, that my females eyes are looking red now.  I got them both at the same time and I'm not sure if this is a sign of why he died, and if it is what to do in order to save the females.

Personally I have never even heard of this happening, sorry. I would try some Bettafix or Melafix just in case it is some form of bacterial infection and make sure you do lots of water changes. 25 percent every other day! If you do use the medication be sure to follow the directions on the bottle!!! Remove carbon from the filtration and do the water changes like recommended on the bottle.
