Question
I have a 45 gallon tank which i added two new fish, going on two month ago now, a gold severum and a leporinus fasciatus. With out putting them in a isolation tank i let them go with in a half hour. Three days later my leporinus had 5 white on his top fin, worried i began treating for ich. So far I've tried Tetra lifeguard all-in-one treatment, Tetra ich guard, and Rid-ich plus. The spots never grow and never spread. I wanted to know if it could be anything else, oh and it never spread to any of the other fish in the tank

Answer
Hi Emily,
Sometimes fish get 'blemishes' (for lack of a better word) on their fins. These are often little marks or tiny white bumps on individual finrays that have been bumped or slightly injured in some way or another. I've seen these a lot on many fish species and even on the top fins like with your leporinus.

It usually takes a good while for these things to heal. The fact that the spots never spread on the leporinus or appeared on your gold severum signal that its likely not a big issue to worry about. If it were a fungal infection the fungus should have spread by now and really made itself known.

I think you are in the clear. Just maintain the best water quality you can and you'll be fine!

I hope this helps!
Susan~
