guppie deaths

over the past two months i have had four guppies die of a mysterious disease. Some have been sick for weeks and then died and some have died in the course of a few hours. The main symptoms are a loss of colour and hanging down at the bottom of the tank. When near death the tail splits completely and in one case the guppies body became brown.i have tried many different treatments for fungal and parasite infections but nothing works. THe fish only get sick one at a time and some of them i didnt even own when the first one died. I always do i water change adn try to medicate when i see a guppie coming down with the symptoms but they always die

That sounds similar to what happens to fish where the Ph isn't right. Do a water quality check (ph, ammonia, ect). Don't worry about hardness of water. Tap water just is like that.
If something isn't right do a couple water changes and a gravel cleaning.
