-------------------------
Karen,
Thank you very much for getting back to me.  I don't mind if you ask others about my question.  I just thought I would let you know that the little critters seem to be decreasing in numbers lately and they didn't change size at all after a week and a half.  I have also noticed that the frogs have been occasionaly hanging around on the plants lately and have seen the fish dart over and nip in the plants direction.  So I am thinking that maybe the critters, whatever they are, have been getting snacked on.  Let me know if you come up with anything else they could be and thank you again for all the information you have given.

Question -
Hi Karen.  I have a 10 gallon tank with 3 white clouds, 3 rasaboras and 2 african dwarf frogs.  I have never had any problems with my tank.  Recently I noticed little specks of things in my tank.  They are about the size of the tip of a pen and a dark grayish tan color.  They are on the leaves of my plants (which are fake)and if I stare real close I can see them sort of crawling around.  I have seen my rasaboras do their little mating dance and may have a male and female frog but am not sure.  Could these specks of crawling things be eggs?  Or are do you think they could be parasites or something harmful I should be worried about?  Everyone in the tank seems to be happy as usual.  One more thing I thought I should add...I feed my frogs flakes and pellets but about 2 weeks ago I was out in my flower bed and found some small worms.  I fed them to my frogs for a treat.  Could something from the soil off the worms have caused these mystery crawling things?

Answer
Dear Lauren,
You're very welcome.
It's true the mite-like critters could certainly be from the worms. Anytime you feed food from an un-controlled (wild) area you are taking a gamble. The best thing to do is rinse the wild-caught food very well and be sure to remove any dirt before feeding to your fish and other aquatic creatures.

Nobody really knows for sure what your critters are. But them slowly dissapearing means good news that they aren't something that's going to overpopulate or thrive in your aquarium.

If I should find anything else, or anybody knows more. I will be sure to let you know first thing. ;-)

Best wishes as always,
Karen~
