Worms in the tank

Question
I have a bunch of snails and I have noticed little things that look like sea monkeys swimming around in the tank, and then I noticed little nasty white worms crawling around all over the inside of the tank. I read that they are Planaria, and they are harmless. I don't know really how to get rid of them because I have snails instead of fish. I can't clean the tank too good because of all the little babies. I dunno how to get rid of them.

Thanks,
Brittany

Answer
Hi Brittany;

The only way to get rid of planaria is by cleaning and cutting back on food. There is just way too much organic matter in there for just the snails to eat by themselves so the planaria are helping out by thriving on it too. The planaria may never go away altogether because the snails just normally produce a tremendous amount of waste that they like too. I would stop adding any food at all to the tank for a few days. Then, add only about half of the amount of food you normally do. Just keep it as clean as you can from there I guess is all you can do.
