Greenish water in my freshwater tank

Question
Chloe,

My 30Gl fresh water tank developed greenish, cloudy water.
No problems with my fish.
Have 2 cat fish and 3 Angels.
No live plants, all plastic, I see some green slush on my cover.
Is it algae. and how do I deal with it?
The lights are on 6-8 hrs a day.
The tank is 8 months old.
What do you think?

Answer
Hi David,
This sounds like an algae bloom. It can be caused by very high nitrates or overfeeding. The algae you have is called slime algae. To get red of this algae you could try reducing the amount of lighting and feeding. If this fails then i would buy a UV steralizer. This will mkae your water clear and free of any algae.

Hope this helps
Chloe.
