Question
Hey,

My betta was infected with fungal disease. I purchased betta fix from Big Als, and I put a 1/4 tblspoon for him each morning. He seems to be getting alittle better ,very slowly. But I have noticed his water is alittle cloudy, I am almost positive this is the medication. I am supposed to leave the medicaton for 7 days, and then change the water. Is the water changing because of the medication? Is it normal? Also, my beta hasn't eaten properly for about 4 days, I think he's had like... 5 pellets at the most. He is breathing in big gasps and he practically attacks the surface when he comes up for air. Is giving him a pea a good idea, because last time when he didn't want to eat we gave him a pea and he ate that. Also, I have some flakes that I could give him. He does have a heater right now as well. DO you have any suggestions on the feeding and his breathing?

Thanks a bunch,

Hayley.

Answer
Hi Hayley:  The medication is probably making the water cloudy.  Try to feed him some live brine shrimp and see if he will eat those... It is important that he eat as that will boost his immune system.  Brine shrimp, tubiworms, etc are favorites of betta fish... You can also try the pea... if he eats it that is also good as they are full of vitamins... You can add a little bit of salt to his tank and that will help his breathing. Salt is important when medication fish as it makes it easier for them take air from the water  keep me posted... dave
