small snails in my 55 gallon aquarium

Question
Hello!  I have a question concerning my 55 gallon aquarium.  I have 3 Cory catfish, 3 orange platys, and 3 dalmatian Mollies.  They are all doing very well.  However, I have been seeing miniscule snails in the tank.  I talked to a friend from our local pet store, and He said that they were Egyptian snails. ? He asked me if I had any live plants,(which I don't)and that they were harmless, but are notorious for overrunning an aquarium.  He said to buy some loaches ? and that they would eat the snails.  There are not very many.  Maybe 3 or 4, and they are the size of a pin head.  Any suggestions?  Thanks again for your help.

Answer
Hello,

You can leave them if you want, as your friends said they won't cause your fish any harm. However, you don't want them to overrun your tank. If you do start to see too many you may want to get a loach, or remove them by hand. If you decide to get a loach I recommend clown loaches or yoyo loaches. They both will get big enough to help you control the snail population.

I hope this has helped.

Stephanie
